Hydroponic simply means growing plants without soil. This is done by floating a plant in a nutrient rich solution that provides all that is needed for the plant to grow. Plants that do well when grown hydroponically include tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, cucumbers and eggplants. Most kinds of plants that are grown hydroponically have their own specialized nutrient formulas. Plants are known to grow faster when in a water solution, as compared to soil, as they do not have to spend their time and resources growing extensive root systems in search of moisture and nutrients.

Hydroponics can be a fun and very rewarding way to grow many foods, especially when access to fertile soil is limited or not an option. One neat aspect is that you can grow these plants in doors and all year round with the assistance of a plant light.

Growing systems can very from elaborate green houses to simple set ups that consist of a few plants in your home.  A great resource website is www.cropking.com . They have information for any size of hydroponic operation.
